Lil Wayne - Lil Wayne Lands A Million Sales To Top Us Album Charts

Rapper LIL WAYNE has cemented his status as America's biggest name in hip-hop by scoring the biggest album sales week in over three years.

The tattooed hitmaker has stunned chart watchers by debuting his new album Tha Carter III at the top of the new Billboard 200 chart with over one million first week sales.

It's the first time any artist has scored a sales week of over a million copies of an album since 50 Cent debuted big with The Massacre in 2005.

It's a good week for rap and hip-hop all round as Plies debuts Definition of Real at two, with 215,000 opening week sales.

Chart compilation Now 28, last week's chart topper from rockers the Disturbed and Usher's Here I Stand complete the new top five.

Other high new entries on the countdown include N.E.R.D.'s Seeing Sounds at number seven and Alanis Morissette's Flavors of Entanglement at eight.

And, after thrilling Bonnaroo Festival fans with a three-hour set on Friday night (13Jun08), My Morning Jacket score their first top 10 album - Evil Urges debuts at nine.

The Red Violin - 6/3/2008

A sprawling epic and a would-be masterpiece, The Red Violin is the story of an ill-fated violin, from the moment it is crafted in 1600s Italy to the day it is sold at auction in millennial Canada. The violin is passed through 1700s Vienna, to an Oxford virtuoso in the 1800s, and on to Mao's China for spell before landing in the lap of Samuel L. Jackson's instrument appraiser. Following the checkered past of such a fateful instrument makes you feel a bizarre sense of connection with it. But ultimately the movie rings a tad hollow -- with contrived plot points and an unbearable and unbelievable finale. But never mind that -- Violin is a grandiose production that should be seen and enjoyed.

Joely Richardson - Richardson Refutes African Adoption Reports

NIP/TUCK star JOELY RICHARDSON has denied reports she is set to follow in the footsteps of MADONNA and ANGELINA JOLIE and adopt a baby orphan from Africa.

The British actress recently admitted she was considering adoption after visiting an African orphanage.

But the 43-year-old claims she came away from the trip with a new perspective about adoption.

She says, "I spoke to a woman who works at an orphanage and she said that they encourage as much help and support for the orphanage as we can give, but ideally they like a child not to be taken out of their natural environment. And that stuck with me.

"I just think it's about what's in the child's best interests."

But Richardson - who has a 16-year-old daughter, Daisy - has praised Madonna's adoption of Malawian tot David Banda and her subsequent fundraising for other Malawian orphans via her Raising Malawi organisation, insisting her selfless efforts are heroic.

She adds, "There are exceptions, obviously, as in Madonna's case, when you have a great support system and can reinvest a lot in to a country, the way she has done."
